Elevator Cabins that we commonly see usually have only one door. We use the same door when entering the cabin, and again when getting out. But there are times when we encounter elevator cabins with two doors. Usually the two doors are located opposite each other. We enter through the front door, and getting out through the other door on another level. This model is commonly referred to as the Through Type Elevator.
Why is there a need for such an elevator model? Usually because of limitations imposed by layout arrangement on each floor. On the one hand, this kind of elevator model provides flexibility for building owners in arranging the floor layout. But on the other hand, the two-door elevator also carries a higher cost and higher technical complexity.
Another type of elevator cabin that we rarely encounter is the Perpendicular Type (Elbow Type). Perpendicular means “at 90 degree angle”. As the name implies, Perpendicular elevator doors are in front and on the sides (right side or left side).
This model is more common for home applications than for commercial buildings. The layout of commercial buildings is usually more uniform from floor to floor. However, the layout of the house can be very different for each floor.
Obviously this model is more technically complex, and requires more room in the hoistway. Depending on the size of the cabin and the hoistway, one of the doors may only open sideways (Side Open).
Not all Elevator brands can handle the complexities of Through Type and Perpendicular Type Elevators. But UOLA Volkslift is one that can manufacture both models.
